Summer is all about effortless looks. Don’t get me wrong, in the winter I am all about crimson lips, leather boots and winged liner so sharp it could cut someone. But in the summer, I want to look like a golden island princess ready to surf into the sunset. Basically, I like looking like I can speak Hawaiian if I wanted to. Pihaʻū oʻu mokukauaheahe i nā puhi (thats “My hovercraft is full of eels” for all you non Hawaiians)
1. Life’s A Beach (Lush Cosmetics $6.95)
Life’s A Beach is Lush’s newest body scrub. It smells like a Hawaiian cabana on the beach, which is why I love it! If this isn’t beachy enough for you, guess what? It also contains real sand. This is a great exfoliant to play around with this summer, and if you can’t get to a beach, this could surely be a perfect substitute.
2. Boscia Daily Defense Sunscreen SPF 50+++ ($25.00)
I recently went into Sephora to find a good *eghem* the best sunscreen on the market. I legit walked in and was like “yo, what’s the best sunscreen you got”. They led me to this Boscia Sunscreen. It’s amazing because not only is it SPF 50, but it has three pluses, which means it protects you from virtually any light/sun damage. They claimed it even protected me from the UV rays in the store! I figured I would trust it, as many sunscreens only have one plus. Sunscreen is hard to review because you don’t necessarily see results, but I don’t have skin cancer yet so I assume it’s working.
3. Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream ($5.80-8.99)
I’ve been using this BB cream for a while now, and I have to say it works really well. I can’t really vouch for how well the “acne treatment” part of it works, but I haven’t broken out because of it, which is good! It’s got pretty good coverage, so if you don’t have perfect skin but you want to try out BBcream instead of foundation, this is a good place to start.
4. YSL Touche Eclat ($42.00)
The only product I will ever really splurge on is this YSL concealer/brightener pen. I started using it months ago, and have fallen in love. Its a light formula that somehow miraculously brightens your under eyes! I use this by itself without any other makeup and instantly feel great, which is perfect for summer. I recommend testing it out in a beauty store to see if you love it too!
5. Mac Melba or Mac Peaches ($22.00)
Mac Melba/Peaches are two amazing powder blushes that have lasted me a good lifetime. They’re 100% matte, which is perfect for me because I stay away from shimmery face products. They have a natural color, so if you want a summer cheek that looks dainty and fresh, I would check these out.
6. Nars Juliette ($32.00)
A pretty stupid expensive price, but I love this color. It’s a pinky coral that is hands down my favorite pop to any summer makeup look. I feel very tropical with this on. You could most likely find a cheaper option anywhere you go, though.
7. Benefit They’re Real! ($18.00)
The great thing about this mascara is it’s impeccably waterproof. This stuff will not leave my face in the water. It’s super black and works with one swipe, so if you want those long thick black lashes, They’re Real is for you!
8. Benefit Brow ($18.00)
For those looking for a quick brow fix, this is a gel I would recommend. It’s perfect for after you’ve gone swimming and you want to brush your brows back into place, while also adding thickness and coverage! One swipe should do the trick to making your brows look somewhat on “fleek” again. Forget I said fleek. Oops.
9. Bumble and Bumble Hairdressers Invisible Oil ($9.00)
Everyone needs a good heat protector in the summer, and this cute little bottle should do the trick! Work some into your hair after a shower for sun protection!
10. Living Proof Flex Shaping Hairspray ($24.00)
Finally, my favorite hairspray ever. This stuff smells AMAAAAZING. Let me tell you, I spray more of this on my hair because it just smells so darn good. The smell makes me happy! It actually puts me in a great mood! Crazy, right? It smells like warm vanilla cookies are baking in your hair. It also isn’t crunchy, and allows your hair full movement! Please do yourself a favor and douse your head in this next time you’re around a bottle.
Here’s my fresh faced summer makeup look! I hope you enjoyed this and got some ideas on what products to check out for the summertime!
