Summer is a time where I don’t want to think too much about intricate outfits. I’m trying to be a free “Cali girl” spirit here, okay? Of course, I still want to shop almost every day of the season- but the underlying tone in my mind always talks me out of it, because I realize I won’t really be putting a ton of fashion effort into my outfits in the summer.
I still want to shop, though.
So for today’s post, I thought I would show you a new dress that I bought (because I couldn’t help myself), and show you two ways to wear it! So if you feel like buying a cute dress for summer, but know you don’t want to wear it just one time before it’s back to sweaters and Ugg boots, this is for you.
This outfit is all about simplicity. I didn’t put too much into it, because In the summer I like to just throw things on and go. This is the perfect look to hang with your friends all day and look girly, yet effortless and ready to take on the day.
A pair of converse matched with a dainty dress gives the look a more toned down feel. Another plus side of converse is that you can successfully skateboard and ride bikes without getting sandals or heels caught in the mechanism! Whenever I skate, I have to be wearing converse or vans.
Okay, say you’re going to a summer dinner party, or a date- or you just want to look really freaking good at your grandma’s next barbecue. This outfit is sure to turn heads, and its still super comfortable!
I decided to wear my palm tree dress with a white crochet “kimono”. I call it a “kimono”, because I actually found it in a 70’s thrift store- and I’m not sure if It’s original purpose was to be a trendy 2000’s coachella staple. The way it lays on me when I button it up matches more along the lines of a hippy mother’s swimsuit coverup. Regardless, I’m loving it- especially because it’s vintage and not found in stores today!
Summer weather can cause your hair to do crazy things. I added a hat to this look, so that If your hair becomes sweaty and oily, a hat can totally mask it! This hat is from Anthropologie, and I got it last year. I love it because it’s a light brown color that I haven’t seen in many stores. I added a little bling to the outfit to make it pop. This necklace I actually traded Jeanine for a broken camera lens last year *insert laughing emoji here*. The monetary value in the trade was probably off a few hundred dollars, but thats okay. I really liked the necklace.
Overall, I think this dress from For Love and Lemons is super versatile for summer. I will say though, be warned that the chest area is super loosey goosey- so I’d wear pasties or a bralette underneath!
What’s your favorite versatile item you own? Let me know!!
