How To Dress For School!
Today I headed over to my school, which was completely deserted since it’s now summer break. I wanted to film there, because I swear it never fails to give me some great, vibrant colors for my videos! I woke up in a real mood to dress comfy and somewhat preppy- almost “effortless”, which honestly rarely happens because I tend to stick to my casual look of a romper, high socks and black boots. Today though, I felt different.
I had this shirt from Free People that I had never worn before, after buying it off a girl from Poshmark months in advance. It had been sitting in my closet, mainly because I just never thought It was my style. It made me think of the super smart, sporty, blonde ASB girls from my high school that wore brand new Toms shoes and knew how to do french braiding, and that totally wasn’t my look. I was never like those girls. They seemed so perfect!
Despite the weird hesitation I had built up toward this shirt, I decided to give it a try. It wasn’t colorful, it wasn’t super high neck-lined and it was loose; totally not Eva.
I put it on though, and suddenly I turned into the smart, all American girl I had always been slightly jealous of in High School. Super weird, right? I suddenly wanted to wear skinny jeans and flats, just like they did. I realized that hey, I may not have scored a 32+ on my ACTS, but I sure did feel like it. I felt like I had planned prom, aced finals week and brushed my teeth four times a day. Okay that was weird… but honestly I did feel pretty put together.
Regardless, I formulated this whole outfit and the main thing I felt was comfortable! So, so comfortable. I wanted to get work done! And then I realized, It doesn’t matter who was wearing the outfit back in High School that I didn’t think I belonged in. It was what the outfit was making those girls be like. This outfit, funny as it may seem, made me want to work hard!! Maybe that’s why those girls always seemed to look like they were succeeding in legit everything.
SO, I thought this would be the perfect outfit to talk about how to dress for school. I think this is one really good outfit for class. Theres so many looks I think would be great for school, but this is just one look that really made me want to focus and work hard.
For this look I recommend:
A loose fitted blouse
A fitted loose blouse will be breezy, comfortable and allow you to move in any position without it riding up on your curves and exposing your back when you sit in your desk. I can’t tell you how many times those forever21 tank tops have exposed the top sliver of my underwear. Plus with a blouse, you can spin in circles and it will bloom around you *laughing emoji*
High Waisted Jeans
I remember being in high school and my grandma wouldn’t let me buy bell bottom jeans because they were too low at the hip. I bought them anyways (duh), but now I totally regret it because high waisted pants are so in right now. The good thing about them is that they’ll 100% always hide your undies, so you can lean forward in your chair as much as you want- no guy is gonna see those undies. Plus, they make your butt look bigger! Woop Woop!
If you’re going to buy flats, buy leopard ones. Leopard, as a standard fashion rule, is a neutral. This means it can go with anything, which also means I can pair leopard flats with this outfit…and every other outfit I create. Talk about a good place to put your money. I went through a phase where I wore heeled boots to class every day. I felt awesome for being so tall.. but I was also like 5 minutes late to class with blisters.
I keep this Forever21 tribal headband in my bag so whenever I need a quick hair fix, I can throw it on and either leave my hair down or even put it in a low pony. It looks absolutely effortless and gets your hair away from your face fast!
A Colorful Bag
A lot of girls love wearing neutrals right now (A la brandy melville) but It’s always fun to add color into your wardrobe. For this neutral outfit, I added pops of color with this bag from Dailylook. Its adorable and the perfect eclectic touch!
So that is just one of my outfit ideas for school! Let me know if you want me to do a full blog post on a ton of school looks!!
